I find it daunting to write an artist’s statement. People are interested in the person behind the art, I understand that. But for me, only the work matters.

How do you, the beholder, see, feel and experience my work? This is what matters to me — the beholder’s share. You, the beholder, as partner with the creator, helping to bring the image to life.

I will share a few things about me that inspire my work:

I am married to a beautifully gifted woman
I live within a few miles of the Pacific Ocean
I read with the appetite of a starving man
I swam before I walked. Water is my second home
I started surfing when I was twelve years old
I am a veteran. I served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1968
I do not take my life or my blessings for granted
I am a “sun child”
I crave silence
